Work

This composition is about distance and closeness, like a helical spring, which, if released when it’s stretched, will jump back in its original shape. The original shape is a basic rhythm of which each note is one beat longer than the previous one.

Throughout the piece, each instrument moves away from the original shape with increasing melodic range and rhythmic complexity, only to return to the basic rhythm. This intensification reaches a peak which is the reason for the title, meaning work or labour in ancient Greek.
